Hello and welcome! My name is Christopher Polt and I am currently an assistant professor of Classics in the World Languages Department at the University of South Florida. I earned my Ph.D. and M.A. in Classics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.A. in Classical Studies at Boston University, where I also earned my B.A. in Ancient Greek & Latin and Classical Civilization.
My research and teaching focus primarily on Latin poetry from the Roman Republic and early Empire, though my interests in the ancient Mediterranean range broadly and I often wander onto other paths in the course of my work. I am also interested in translation, both ancient and modern, especially how translators appropriate, modify, and reject elements of their source texts in order to advance their own literary, philosophical, and political agendas.
